The Blightwalkers

Not long after the last block of Pataphor’s tower flattened its last victim, a group of survivors crawled out of the immediate wreckage of the cataclysm and decided it would be a bloody good idea if THAT never happened again!!!

Thus was formed a society dedicated to stamping out sorcery and the dangerous ‘patalogical artifacts they created. They called themselves The Blightwalkers.

(It seems a natural enough name. There was blight. They walked through it. Bob’s your uncle.)

The organization began humbly as a small mob with just a few ropes and torches marching toward what was left of Antimony’s tower.

Not long after, with the few remaining acolytes dangling from trees, they decided the whole enterprise had gone exceedingly well, and so they took to the road in search of any other sorcerers straggling around the place.

Over time, the Blightwalkers became organized, established branches in all the major cities, and rapidly ran out of sorcerers to hang.

Their mission then pivoted to the location and disposal of dangerous ‘patalogical artifacts.

And, with that pivot, the mindset of the Blightwalkers shifted a bit from wrath to scholarship.

These days, many adventuring parties are accompanied by Blightwalkers. The adventurers get the benefit of the Blightwalkers’ experience dealing with the ‘patalogical and the Blightwalkers get the protection of the party. It’s mutually understood that things will go south, and rapidly, should the party come across any dangerous ‘patalogical artifact. However, why worry about something that hasn’t happened yet?

From time to time a Blightwalker will come across a sorcerer, rare as they may be. These events are generally described by the surviving witnesses to range from “ARGHHHHHH!” to “ARGHHHHHH!

The headquarters of the Blightwalkers is located in Freedonia (we think). At least, it was there before the fog set in. The head of the Blightwalker HQ is (was?) Severity Knucklerapper.

The office of the Bligthwalkers in any given city is easy to find, as each is adorned with the Blightwalker Service Creed carved in stone and featuring very large letters in many different languages:

“Not jape nor jest nor limerick blue will take us from our purpose true, for sorcery is and all the while that sorcery does we shall not smile.”
